Highlighter Dupes and where to apply them

I purchased highlighter dupes early last month, and never did get around to use them, until yesterday. Highlighters can make a huge difference to a face beat (makeup on your face) overall, if its done right and with the right products. Everyones facial skin is different so what works for your friend, might not work for you. With that being said, its best to go for low budget highlighters at first, until you are comfortable enough in technique when applying your highlighter as highlighter on the top end range can be a bit pricey.

For me, I found cream based highlighters work best than the powdery ones. Remember, for you it could be the other way around. The dupes were R20 each at a local beauty outlet and its okay for now. Going forward, I definitely will invest in a cream based highlighter which is from a top brand.

You might have wondered where highlighter should be applied. I found this picture on Google and it illustrates perfectly, where to apply your highlighter, so ladies take note!

How to apply highlighter:
-Firstly prime and prep your skin, use a good primer as this will set and keep your foundation and products in place.
-Apply your foundation and concealer, which will ensure a more even canvas for your highlighter and makeup.
-Tip: use your concealer to map out where you plan to place your highlighter by using dots of concealer on cheek bones, bridge of nose etc.
-A brush or kabuki brush is often used to apply highlighter. The key is to take your time, and blend in your makeup along with your highlighter for that glowing, dewy makeup effect.
-Place some highlighter on your fingertip and dab onto the tip of your nose.
-Use an eyeshadow applicator to enhance the inner corner of your eyes, by placing some highlighter there.
-Cream highlighter is best applied with a sponge, and powdery highlighter with a brush whether it be a fan or kabuki brush.
-Tip: for me, cream highlighter is less messy than powdery highlighter as powder pigments tend to be looser and could end up on other areas of your face.

Hope these pointers help you when you decide to venture into using highlighter next time you do your makeup.  Ill certainly keep trying.  😉🗢
