Wayde Van Niekerk sets the 400m Record!

Okay I know this aint beauty related, but I just had to - im a Proud South African this morning..

Some South Africans, like Madiba`s grandson has been in the news lately for the wrong reasons and have definitely not been a reason for us as South Africans to be proud.

But for another totally different reason like a local `boytjie` making it big by running his heart out and giving it his all, we as South Africans can be completely proud to call ourselves South African this time around.  ;-)

Wayde managed to beat the record holder and Olympic Champion, Kirani James in a record breaking time at the Paris Diamond League.  Wayde made us more than proud when he became one of the first Africans to go below the 44 seconds benchmark in the one-lap sprint.  What was his time you might ask? An astonishing 43.96 seconds a record breaking time, compared to the Grenadian and previous record holder taking second best at a time of 44.17 seconds.  And although Wayde has been upping his game over the past two years, at the tender age of only 22 now and having beaten the record holder Kirani James, he now only believes he can be accounted amongst the best in the world.

Wayde told www.sport.24.co.za that; "It's still a process and I believe that was definitely a game changer, and now I know I need to now step up my game and try compete at a more consistent level and through that consistency I believe the results will follow,"

Well done Wayde, we as South Africa stand behind you and we are more than proud because of you!  Keep up the great work and here`s to many more record breaking on your behalf! ;-)
